Welcome to uncakdphi.org! - OUR PHILANTHROPY

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY - *BREAST CANCER AWARENESS*
alpha Kappa Delta Phi's national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness. As women, we feel that this is a significant issue that needs to be addressed in the community. Each year, we perform service projects dedicated towards promoting Breast Cancer Awareness.
This year, more than 180,000 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the suffering and deaths caused by this disease. alpha Kappa Delta Phi, the first and largest national Asian American Interest sorority, proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project which is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer.
In 1998, alpha Kappa Delta Phi launched our first-ever national service project. Through our 22 chapter effort, we dedicated 1998-99 to Breast Cancer Awareness by educating ourselves, our college campuses, and our communities. In October 2000, UNC aKDPhi organized their first week-long campaign to educate our campus and community about breast cancer and to raise money for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. On October 25, 2002, over 32 chapters dedicated this day as Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
In October 2002, UNC aKDPhi changed their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week to Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the help from SUSHI, Zeta Tau Alpha, and Orange County Women's Shelter.
Our annual Breast Cancer Benefit Dinner is held every semesters in effort to raise fundings for the Susan G. Komen's foundation as well as raising Breast Cancer awareness. In May 2004, our chapter won the Philantrophy's Award at our annual aKDPhi National Convention being held in Santa Clara, CA.

MISSION ++
KDPhi has a three-fold mission for its Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign:

1. To raise funds on a national level to contribute to a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer through the sale of the popular Pink Ribbon pins.
2. To dedicate at least one service event per chapter/colony to Breast Cancer Awareness.
3. To develop a comprehensive page on our national website that provides links to breast cancer resources
